A freak flood wipes out the light lands. All the light horses seek refuge in the neutral lands. That's all good and fine, until they run out of food. They must find new lands. They find a new land, plentiful in food and water, lots of shade. They are all happy about this and start settling down.
A group of foals wander off.
The darks go about their day-to-day lives, until they notice the big gathering close to their lands. They plan a war for fun and send off their finest warriors to battle the lights and neutrals. The group of foals that were separated wander into the dark lands, and the darks left behind round them up as prisoners. The foals are powerless and stay there.
The war starts and they fight (etc. etc.) And some lights and neutrals are brought back into the dark lands as prisoners. The rest of the big heard have to leave in search of a new land (the darks kicked them out).
The group of foals try escaping, but they can't outsmart the darks. One of the foals suggests that they all run at the same time, but the darks are on to them, they can't escape. The adult prisoners are still held captive, their conditions more harsh than the foals. They do not get to see each other.
The big herd decides to cause a distraction, but they needed something, something big.
A fire starts (or volcano erupts, depends if there is a volcano or not) in the lands where the prisoners are held captive. The fire spreads quickly, forcing them all to leave. The big herd sees this as their chance, and they rush in to take their foals back, and to get the other prisoners. The darks manage to keep the foals with them. They threaten to kill the foals unless the light and neutral kings and queens take their places. The kings and Queens Refuse but another distraction such as another volcano erupts and the Darks get Distracted once again then the large herd takes back toe foals but all the lands are destroyed.

In the end, apart from the dead from the flood, starvation, war and fire, they find new lands.
